Have you ever felt as if you were suffering in pain, but no one could see your hurt? Well Ben had been through that feeling time and time again. He always had a smile on his face to hide his hurt and broken soul. It was if no one could see the real him, or notice as his life spiraled out of control. Everyone has felt like this at one point or another. Some of us go through this stage longer than others. You will walk in the shoes of Ben as he is on a long and depressing journey through life. There will be happy patches, but they never last. He will always find himself struggling through how to handle life. Many times he will want to give up and throw in the white towel, but he always pushes through. He always wakes up and puts on a fake smile as if no one can see his hurt. He does a good job at hiding his lost soul. At the end he realizes something needs to change! This book hits home for me because it was how my life was. I walked in Ben's shoes for years and know how he feels. I have put a fake smile on to hide myself from the world. That's the power of a smile! If you have a smile then no one will notice anything is wrong. Everyone will think you are happy and enjoying life. Only if they could see past the smile, would they see the hurt and the broken heart.
